Long Aluminum Billet Multi‑Saw Cutting Line with PLC Automatic Length Positioning

This multi-saw production line delivers fully automatic cutting for a full range of long aluminum alloy billets. It handles billet head trimming, fixed-length cutting, tail removal and chip collection, acting as pre-processing machinery for extrusion plants.

Machine Composition

The complete system includes a buffer and alignment station, multi-billet loading mechanism, incoming conveyor, primary multi-saw cutting unit, discharge conveyor, length measuring module, finished material rack, scrap hopper for trimmed ends, aluminum chip recycling system, hydraulic power station and PLC-powered electric control system.

Working Process

An overhead crane moves aluminum billets from the casting pit to the buffer alignment table for end face calibration.

*The multi-billet loader picks up and transports multiple workpieces onto the incoming roller track.


*Rollers feed billets toward the main saw station; materials get clamped before head trimming starts.


*Billets advance to the length measurement module. Once target dimensions are configured, clamping activates to cut off the billet tail.


*Trimmed heads and tails fall into scrap containers under gravity. A fan-assisted assembly collects aluminum cutting chips.


*Processed billets are conveyed to the output rack for crane handling.


The whole workflow runs under PLC control. Operators input all process parameters digitally via the HMI panel. The system integrates fault alerts and safety interlock protection. Both manual and automatic operation modes are selectable.

Loading Platform & Multi-Billet Loader
  • Loading platform assemblies: Q235B rectangular steel tube 250×150×8 (Shaoguan Iron & Steel), chain-driven design for 6.5 m billets, 2 sets.
  • U-shape manipulator for lifting & traversing loading: 1 set.
  • Driven by RCW87 geared motor, double-row sprocket-chain and 2-inch carrier chain.
  • HOB-series hydraulic cylinders (Foshan Jialida, complying with GB2348-2001) for billet lifting & feeding.
In-feed Section

Main Saw Unit

Horizontal circular saw configuration. Saw head advance-retreat driven by hydraulic cylinder-motor with adjustable feed speed. Equipped with quasi-dry mist lubrication assembly.

  • Saw-head frame: Q235B square tube 100×100×5.
  • TCT saw blade ∅900 mm, 72 teeth; 45 kW saw motor.
  • Quenched-and-tempered 45# steel spindle, imported FKG 6315 spindle bearings.
  • Vertical clamping cylinders, head-aligning cylinder, HOB feed cylinder; guide-rod & bronze bushing set ensures linear travel accuracy of saw carriage.
Out-feed & Length-Gauge Assembly
  • Out-feed frame: GB-grade 20# channel steel. Integrated length-gauge unit with sensor-based buffer anti-collision function.
  • Rollers driven by BMR-200 hydraulic motor for post-cut handling. Out-feed hydraulic cylinders perform unloading movements.
Hydraulic Power Pack

One shared hydraulic station for the whole production line. Welded reservoir of Q235B steel plate; PV2R21 oil pumps and manifold valve blocks. Air-cooled heat exchanger (non-water-cooled), suitable for plants with limited or poor-quality water supply.

Scrap & Swarf Handling
  • Billet heads/tails fall by gravity into welded scrap bins.
  • Aluminum swarf: fan suction into sealed housing, with swarf compacting station for convenient waste transportation.
Electrical Control System
  • Control core: Mitsubishi PLC 128M + Weinview 7-inch HMI touch-screen.
  • Components: Schneider contactors & thermal relays, Chint circuit breakers, proximity sensors, photo-electric and limit switches.
  • Main electrical cabinet plus separate operation console, full set of cables, cable ducts and terminal blocks.
  • Functions: fault alarm and safety interlock protection.
Operation Notes for Selection
  • This line is designed exclusively for long aluminum billet cropping, not for other non-ferrous metals or profiles.
  • Site requirements: 3-phase 380 V power supply and stable compressed air ≥0.6 MPa.
  • Vegetable-based cutting oil is required for mist lubrication; customer shall provide oil replenishment.
  • Noise level <160 dB(A) measured at 2 m distance. Noise-reduction protection shall be arranged in production workshop.
