In aluminum extrusion billet production, the billet formed in the crystallizer needs to be supported and guided through the subsequent casting process. Therefore, the relationship between the billet guiding platform, crystallizer positioning, and hydraulic lifting platform is an important part of hot top aluminum billet casting equipment design.
The hot top casting platform integrates the crystallizer system, molten aluminum distribution system, cooling-water distribution system, and billet guiding system. Its billet guiding platform is designed to match the existing hydraulic lifting platform and provide structural support and guidance during casting.
The billet guiding platform uses a 14 mm steel base plate as its main structure, with internal ribs that are also 14 mm thick.
After welding, the platform undergoes stress-relief treatment. Machining is then performed to establish the required perpendicular relationship between the guide-head top surface and the hydraulic-cylinder axis after installation. This provides a defined installation reference between the billet guiding platform and hydraulic lifting mechanism.
Four-corner mold positioning devices are incorporated into the guiding platform. The mating surface with the hydraulic lifting platform is designed according to the existing equipment.
The technical specification requires appropriate contact and support conditions at the mating surface so that the four corners can maintain the required load support. Under full-load casting conditions, the structural design aims to prevent platform deformation from affecting billet straightness.
Billet straightness is not determined by the guiding platform alone. The crystallizer also includes a defined positioning structure within the hot top casting system.
The crystallizer uses a two-piece water-curtain design. Its blank is forged from 6061 aluminum rod, followed by rough machining, CNC drilling and milling, and precision machining. Four bolts connect the crystallizer to the casting platform, while six positioning guide surfaces are provided at the bottom of the inner cavity for billet-head positioning.
For equipment configuration, crystallizer positioning, billet guiding system, and hydraulic lifting platform can therefore be evaluated as an integrated structural system rather than as isolated components.
For a hot top aluminum billet casting machine used in aluminum extrusion billet production, buyers can review:
The technical document specifies that structural deformation under full-load casting should not affect billet straightness. However, it does not provide a specific allowable deformation value or billet straightness tolerance. These values should therefore be confirmed against the formal engineering specifications for the actual project.
