Effect of Insulation and Static Time on the Uniformity of Aluminum Melt and Ingot Quality-5

2026-10-22

Optimization of Thermal Insulation and Static Storage Process for Aluminum Alloy Melt and Industrial Control Strategy

Based on the influence of settling time on the uniformity of the melt and the quality of the ingot, combined with the characteristics of different aluminum alloy grades, melt capacity, and production conditions, an optimized insulation and settling process system with "alloy adaptation, capacity regulation, and full process control" is constructed to form a standardized and feasible industrial production plan.

1. Differentiated static time parameter matching

For different types of aluminum alloys, establish exclusive optimal static processing intervals to prevent blind production with uniform parameters. Pure aluminum and low-alloy aluminum melt have simple composition and low impurity content. The optimal settling time is controlled at 20-30 minutes, which can quickly achieve uniform purification and avoid secondary oxidation caused by excessive settling; 6063, 6061 and other medium alloy deformed aluminum alloys are prone to segregation of magnesium and silicon elements, and the difficulty of melt purification is moderate. The settling time is set at 30-45 minutes, which balances the uniformity of composition and the removal of impurities; ADC12, A356 and other high silicon cast aluminum alloys, as well as high alloy aluminum alloys, have many refractory elements and inclusions that are prone to retention. Therefore, the settling time needs to be extended to 45-60 minutes to ensure sufficient diffusion and purification; Molten materials with a proportion of more than 50% recycled materials have a higher risk of impurities and component fluctuations. Therefore, it is necessary to extend the static time by 10-15 minutes on the basis of the conventional range to improve the stability of the melt.

2. Multi parameter collaborative matching regulation

The insulation settling time is not an independent parameter and needs to be matched in conjunction with the settling temperature, refining process, and casting process. The insulation and static temperature of conventional aluminum alloy melt should be stably controlled between 670~690 ℃. If the temperature is too high, it will accelerate element burning and secondary oxidation, while if the temperature is too low, it will reduce element diffusion and impurity settling rate, weakening the static effect; After refining and degassing, it is necessary to immediately enter the static process to avoid secondary pollution caused by exposure of the melt to air; After settling, pouring should be completed within 30 minutes to avoid deterioration of the molten state due to prolonged storage. At the same time, by adjusting the settling time based on DC casting parameters, the settling time can be slightly extended by 5-10 minutes under high-speed casting conditions, maximizing the optimization of melt quality and adapting to rapid solidification requirements.

3. Optimization measures for quality control throughout the entire process

Improve the auxiliary control measures before and after the static process to further enhance the uniformity of the melt and the quality of the ingot. The melting and stirring process adopts low-speed uniform stirring technology to reduce the initial component gradient; Precise control of degassing time and gas flow rate during the refining process, reducing initial impurities and gas residues; During the static stage, the furnace body should be kept sealed and protected with inert gas to prevent secondary oxidation and aspiration; After settling, use shallow and smooth slag removal to avoid stirring the melt and damaging the uniform state; Establish a sampling mechanism for melt quality, real-time detection of melt composition, hydrogen content, and inclusion content, dynamically adjust the settling time based on the detection results, and achieve precise closed-loop control of the process.
